Updated December 17, 2010.
It is with the deepest respect and love for our beloved president and sanghamata that we share with you the news that Sri Daya Mata passed away peacefully on November 30, 2010. (Read “A Special Message From the Self-Realization Fellowship Board of Directors.”)
We have planned a number of special observances to honor our revered Mataji over the next few weeks:
Public Memorial Service — December 12, 2010
A public memorial service to honor Sri Daya Mata will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 E. Green Street, Pasadena, CA 91101. (Directions to the service can be found here.)
The main auditorium seats approximately 3,000, and we are arranging for an adjacent overflow hall with large-screen video, which seats an additional 2,000, in order to accommodate all who wish to attend.

Viewing/Visitation at Forest Lawn Memorial Park
Members and friends will also have an opportunity to pay their last respects to Sri Daya Mata during an open casket viewing at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale — in the main building, on the right as you pass through the main entrance gates.
Hours for visitation are from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the following days:
Directions to Forest Lawn in Glendale can be found here.
Please note that the casket will be closed for the memorial service on December 12 and, because of the large number of people expected to attend the memorial, the congregation will not be able to go forward to the casket after the service. Please plan to visit Forest Lawn on one of the days mentioned above if you wish to pay your respects at the casket.
If you plan to visit Paramahansa Yogananda’s crypt while you are at Forest Lawn, the visiting hours for his crypt are 9:00 a.m.—4:30 p.m.
Flowers
The auditorium has informed us that they have no provisions for receiving flowers, so please do not plan on bringing flowers to the memorial service or sending them to the auditorium.
May we suggest that you consider instead a donation in memory of Sri Daya Mata to Paramahansa Yogananda’s work, the cause that was nearest and dearest to her heart and soul.
Special Services at SRF Temples and Centers
Additionally, our temples and many of our centers around the world will be planning special services, which you are invited to attend. If you would like to know when and where these services are held, we suggest that you contact your local temple or center directly (checking the temple or center website may be the quickest and easiest way to get this information). However, we suggest that you wait several days before contacting them as it will take some time before these plans can be scheduled. Temple websites are listed below. Phone numbers, email addresses, and locations for our centers can be found on our website here.

Christmas Open House at the Mother Center
Because of the special activities planned in honor of Sri Daya Mata, we have modified the schedule for our annual Open House at the Mother Center as follows:
- Friday, December 10: 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. (for members from Hollywood and Glendale Temples)
- Saturday, December 11: 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (for members from Lake Shrine and Fullerton Temples)
- Saturday, December 11: 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. (for members from San Diego, Encinitas, Phoenix, and Richmond Temples)
NOTE: Out-of-town visitors are welcome to attend the Mother Center Open House on either of the days listed above.
- Sunday, December 12: Mother Center grounds closed (no Open House), because of the public memorial service for Sri Daya Mata at Pasadena Civic Auditorium.
We look forward to sharing the inspiration and divine love of Sri Daya Mata’s life with all of you during this very special time.
For all of you who are unable to attend the events in Los Angeles, we know you will receive the blessings of this sacred occasion as you join us in spirit.
Update: Mother Center Open on Monday, December 13 and Closed on Tuesday, December 14
Because of the large number of visitors expected from out-of-town, the Mother Center will be open on Monday, December 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm.
Since we are open on Monday that week, the Mother Center will be closed all day on Tuesday, December 14.
Ongoing updates and tributes will be posted to our website in the coming days.
We invite you to share your thoughts about Sri Daya Mata here.
