SRF Participates in Summer of Peace 2013
For the third year in a row, Self-Realization Fellowship is participating in the annual Summer of Peace, which began June 21 and continues through September 21, 2013 to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Peace. The Summer of Peace is sponsored by The Shift Network, a northern California organization that provides programs, lectures, and events featuring leading thinkers of our time in the fields of justice, sustainability, peace, and wellness.
Summer of Peace brings together “peace-builders” from around the world in what has been described as the world’s largest global telesummit for building a culture of peace. Participating in three months of live and online events are many of the world’s foremost peace leaders in the fields of spirituality, forgiveness, non-violence, education, science, and business — ranging from Pulitzer Prize–winning author Alice Walker to long-time civil rights leader Dr. Bernard Lafayette to former Under-Secretary-General of the UN Ambassador Anwarul Karim Chowdhury.
A special feature of this year’s telesummit is a weekly “Spirituality and Peace” series of talks presented by spiritual teachers from all of the major faith traditions, each of whom will lead meditation and prayer practices to support peace around the world. Sister Usha from the SRF International Headquarters will present a talk on “Praying for Peace,” which includes a guided meditation, on September 15 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. (PST). To listen to any of the presentations, including Sister Usha's talk, visit Summer of Peace’s website, where you can register for free. All of the sessions in Summer of Peace 2013 will also be archived on the site.
