Sri Mrinalini Mata Named Chief Honoree at Diwali Celebration in San Diego

October 21, 2016

Sri Mrinalini Mata, president and spiritual head of Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India, was the chief honoree at the ninth annual Festival of Lights Diwali Celebration of the San Diego Indian American Society (SDIAS).

The honor was accorded in recognition of her lifelong service to the high spiritual ideals that are India’s age-old heritage, and was presented during an evening event held October 15 in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Several thousand people were present, including a delegation of senior SRF monastics.

Professor M. C. Madhavan, founder and director of the San Diego Indian American Society, remarked, “Sri Mrinalini Mataji has dedicated her life to bringing Paramahansa Yoganandaji’s yoga teachings to thousands of people around the world so that all seekers of Truth may realize their highest, most noble potential.” Brother Chidananda accepted the award on Mrinalini Mata’s behalf (photos below), and conveyed her blessings and gratitude in an inspiring address to the gathering. “The sacred observance of Diwali commemorates the spiritual victory of light over darkness,” he said. “May this occasion remind us all of the power of India’s ancient science of yoga meditation to awaken the Divine Light in our own hearts.”

The Indian American Society is devoted to helping people in India and the United States through various humanitarian projects. In 1990, the Society chose Paramahansa Yogananda to be the recipient of its very first Chakra Award, given to individuals of Indian descent who have made monumental contributions to humankind.
