Sri Mrinalini Mata Named Chief Honoree at 9th Annual Diwali Celebration

Self-Realization Fellowship's president and sanghamata, Sri Mrinalini Mata, has been named the chief honoree at the 9th Annual Festival of Lights Diwali Celebration sponsored by the San Diego Indian American Society (SDIAS), and several prominent cultural institutions and associations. A group of senior SRF monastics will be present at the event to accept the award on behalf of Mrinalini Mata.

The event will take place in Balboa Park at the Organ Pavilion on Saturday, October 15, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. An Indian fair (where SRF will have an exhibit booth), cultural performances, and art exhibits are scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at various sites within Balboa Park. Since 1990, the San Diego Indian American Society also has recognized individuals of Indian descent who have made monumental contributions to humankind through its Chakra Award. Paramahansa Yogananda was the first of nine individuals who have received this award over the last two-and-a-half decades. Other recipients have included musician Ravi Shankar, conductor Zubin Mehta, Nobel Laureate Professor Amartya Sen, and scientist Dr. Amar Bose.
