Central Kitchen / Los Angeles

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with supervision of staff and operations of Central Kitchen and Victory Building Kitchen; ensures staff works efficiently, safely, and harmoniously. 
  • Competent and knowledgeable in all areas of the Central Kitchen. 
  • Makes decisions relating to accomplishing tasks when covering for Central Kitchen Supervisor in accordance with SRF’s guidelines and standards. 
  • Replaces Victory Building Assistant Supervisor when on vacation or sick, filing all her duties. 
  • Occasionally handles special events and special requests. 
  • Assists with handling last minute requests. 
  • Interacts with all members of Central Kitchen staff. 
  • Assists with menu planning while working within established dietary guidelines. 
  • Assists with ordering, receiving and storing all supplies (produce, dairy, household). 
  • Resolves concerns and answers questions for other employees alongside Central Kitchen Supervisor. 
  • Assists with training of staff. 
  • Assists in maintaining cleanliness of all areas of the Central Kitchen and bathroom. 
  • Responsible to follow SRF’s policies and established processes.
  • Other position-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Valid California drivers’ license and an excellent DMV record.
  • Physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, work a full shift on one’s feet and maintain physical activity throughout the course of each shift.
  • Fluent in the English language.
  • Basic math skills.
  • A background in food service, food safety, and/or food preparation as well as knowledge of vegetarian cooking.
  • Creativity and experience in preparing and presenting a wide variety of foods from small, household-quantity portions to large commercial quantities.
  • Ability to work harmoniously and safely with others in a restricted work space.
  • Work within deadlines and time constraints.
  • Respond professionally and appropriately to continual changes and unforeseen challenges as they occur.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to function well in a multi-task environment.
  • Ability to perform responsibilities in a manner that meets SRF standards.
  • Ability to maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • High school graduate preferred and/or 5 years of hands on work experience.
  • ServSafe Food Handling Certificate required, refresher course every 3 years.
  • Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to fill all cooking and salad positions.
  • Ability to take instruction well and follow detailed directions.
  • Multiple cooking skills required, ability to handle broad range of foods (including entrees, grains, vegetables, baked goods, desserts, special dietary options as needed, etc.).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs preferred, specifically Word and Excel.

This is a 40 hour-per-week position, Monday through Friday.
